Greetings EQUITY Education Family!
My name is Alexis Davis and I have the pleasure of serving as the Community Engagement Coordinator! In this position, I will be facilitating field experiences, engaging community stake holders, and running the site blog. In addition to community engagement, I will represent Equity Education as a Challenge Detroit Fellow! Challenge Detroit is a leadership and professional development program that invites approximately 30 fellows to immerse themselves in the city of Detroit for one year. Fellows collaborate with different organizations around the city to provide solutions to community needs. I am so excited to participate in this program! I am extremely passionate about youth and community. I attended North Carolina A&T State University, where service was deeply enrooted in our curriculum. My professors taught me to take pride in your community and above all, be a servant to those in need. While I enjoyed the South, I knew I would eventually venture back to the Midwest. As a Cincinnati native, Michigan was not regarded favorably. However, as a lover of history, I have always admired the Motor City. It is the birthplace of Motown and model of architecture. It is a place of resiliency but also opportunity. I am grateful to be here. As Detroit undergoes a new revival, it is an exciting time for all. Education is undoubtedly the most important issue facing city residents. All children deserve a quality education, affirming educators, and a safe space to make mistakes. I am eager to start this journey with Equity and continue delivering excellence to our students.
See you in the classroom!
