At EQUITY, we recruit from a number of sources, including local universities, job fairs, and online platforms, but our top recruitment source is our current talent. Over 80% of our teachers, school leaders, and staff came through personal referrals.
In addition to comprehensive SCECH-eligible professional development throughout the year, EQUITY offers clearly defined talent development pathways from teacher to master teacher, school leader, and EQUITY Home Team. Over 60% of our school leaders and Home Team is composed of former EQUITY school teachers and school staff.
Retain & Reward
Within their first semester with the organization, all new employees participate in a new hire perception survey and a new hire one-on-one meeting with a member of the Talent Department at Home Team. In order to retain our top talent, we focus on developing relationships first.
EQUITY works to retain our top performers with our development pathways, celebrations and bonus structures. EQUITY teachers, leaders, and staff are recognized throughout the school year for fully living out our values in a number of ways, ending with our formal recognition ceremony: the EQUITY Awards Gala. The EQUITY Impact Bonus structure awards teachers, leaders, and staff with financial incentives for achieving excellence academically and culturally. The bonus structure is unique to the Detroit education landscape. Last year, over 78% of EQUITY teachers earned at least one Impact Bonus.
